Kinshira Member Biographies

Dave Seibring

Dave became hooked into fire arts 4 years ago (2006) while involved a valley wide show called pulse. He performed alongside two glow poi spinners who taught him poi during the down time of the show. Dave was so mesmerised that he got a poi set as soon as he could even though he knew no one who spun in his area. He taught himself as much as he could, until through way of facebook was able to meet up with what later would be named Kinshira fire troupe. Poi is his choice performance tool and is branching into staff as well. Dave is also passionate about Latin dancing and brings that into his fire spinning. Dave enjoys diversity in his life and can't imagine his life without fire.

Jennelle McGuire

Jennelle became inspired by the art of fire spinning in 2005 after watching a magical fire performance at a music festival in the Kootenays. To her, fire spinning is a beautiful way of expressing emotion and passion through a unique style of dance. What is so amazing to her is that everyone has a completely different style in their spinning, even whilst doing the same move. It is amazing to be able to share her love for spinning with others, and she hopes that Kinshira's performances will affect the audience on a deeper level. Show them that there is much beauty in our world, and send out a message that we as a society need to focus on a higher level of conciousness for the future.

Mark Eyjolfson

Mark (Pyrosomniac) began fire spinning in 2004 as an outlet from homework in college. His hobby grew into a passion as he continued to hone his spinning skills as a true source of passion in his life. Influenced by martial arts and the spiritual, philisophical, and dedicated ways of the ninja. Mark uses this art form to express appreciation for true ownership of skill in whatever form it may be.

Mark has focused on the martial arts based spinning tools such as staff, swords, and rope dart. His most ambitious focus is on contact staff juggling where he keeps a fire staff in constant motion without the use of hands. The contact staff gives a unique connection to aspects of physics and natural equilibrium in regards to understanding balance and gravity to keep oneself from getting burned. Contact staff is a more graceful and slow form of fire art, but Mark also very much enjoys the fast paced energy packed spinning most commonly seen in his double staff sets, which provides an unleashing of energy in accurate rythmic succession to fast paced music.

"Master your art with all you're heart and the beauty of it will shine over all who see it."

Riley McPherson

Riley has been spinning poi since the summer of 2006. That summer he saw fire spinning for the first time at a music festival and instantly knew that he had to learn. Riley now spins poi for its therapeutic qualities, both physical and mental. He has used it to rehabilitate two recurring shoulder injuries and deeply appreciates its meditative forms. Riley’s slow and melodic style demonstrates thorough understanding and control of the poi while displaying a hypnotic expression of non-linear rhythm. He strives to be in a state of constant learning and growth with the goal of being able to express pure, powerful emotion regardless of the style of music or surroundings.

Tait McGuire

Tait McGuire ( Lupo ) began spinning poi in 2005 soon after he saw his first fire performance.    This strong foundation of poi led him into staff in single and double forms.  Contact juggling is also a favourite with this performer, enjoying the immense level of style and control required.

The use of the full body in motion and expression is what he finds most appealing.  The tools quite simply become extensions of the body; flow, control and grace soon follow.  Tait enjoys working with a group of performers, moulding choreography and presenting fire and characters in very unique ways through the music and motions.  This type of performance has become his passion in life, and he looks to pursue new and intriguing tools and movements in the future, while growing his creativity and love for performance.

" Performances can heal, intrigue and inspire ~ Lets take the audience on a journey to where they will never be the same " - TM

Zoe Masters

Zoë learned to spin in the summer of 2007 and quickly got hooked on the blissful connection between rhythm, movement and the inner harmony that it creates. "You cannot think when spinning, you just are." With a tai chi style, fans are her favourite toy, but she also loves spinning poi, staff and hoop. "Spinning is much more than object manipulation. Like dancing, it is a chance for your soul to come out and play. To reconnect your body and spirit with the elements. It is an awakening."
